Will you be a friend?

There are women in Nanaimo who just need a little help from a friend.

These are women who currently find themselves in very tough situations.  They may be homeless.  They may be trying to find a life outside of the sex trade.  They may temporarily find themselves out of work in a new community.  They are the most marginalized women in our community and they are facing circumstances that most of us are fortunate enough to never have to experience.

The Nanaimo Women’s Centre provides crucial services for these women.  We offer a safe, friendly place for them to drop in; we provide counselling if they request it; we help them find a place to live; and we find clothing for them to wear to job interviews.  We do exactly what any good friend would do!

Will you join us in extending the hand of friendship?  We are looking for 100 good friends who are able to donate $100 each.  If $100 is too much for you, we welcome any amount you can give.   Even $5 can make a difference in the lives of the women who use the Nanaimo Women’s Centre.

While the Nanaimo Women’s Resources Society receives government grants for many of our programs, we also rely heavily on community donors.  Your donation helps ensure that we are always here to lend a friendly, helping hand!

How to donate:

  • Online on this website - see button on right

  • Online donation to Nanaimo Women’s Resources Society at www.CanadaHelps.org

  • Cheque mailed to Nanaimo Women’s Resources Society, 150 Wallace Street, Nanaimo, B.C.  V9R 5B1.  Please provide us with your address and email so that we can thank you and send a tax receipt.

If you wish to become further involved, we would welcome you as a member of the Nanaimo Women’s Resources Society.   If you have questions, please email volunteercoordinator@nanaimowomen.com

What $100 will do:
  • Support four one-on-one crisis interventions sessions for women and their families

  • Provide outreach supports for sexually exploited youth.

  • Supply one at-risk youth with an educational program that teaches young adults to be successful tenants

  •  Allow a family with challenges to attend three family support sessions
